Brassia orchid is mainly found in West Indian Island and some areas of America. It is mere popular due to its strange look & it gives off wonderful smell when it blossom. It is also called spider orchid due to its characteristic shape.
The size of the plant is from 7.5 cm. to 50 cm. The plant requires bright light and is highly colored. Hybrid plant well improves ease of culture and increase the number of flowers.
Light : The plant needs more amount of sunlight but it should not be kept in direct sunlight because the leaves are very susceptible to sunburn. If we place the plant not directly in the path of sun the plant will be healthier.
Temperature : The temperature for this plant ranges from 65 to 75 degree. It can drop to 55 degree during nighttime. If we want the orchid to re-flower after dormant season then we should provide similar cool temperature during this time.
Potting medium & container : The Potting container should be ventilated well for roots and keep the soil from retaining lots of water. Container must have slits on the side so that air easily passes through. The plant should be re-planted in fresh batch of specialized material at least once two to three years to be free from root rot.
Water : Orchid needs to be watered at least once a week, but it should not be watered until the plant matter is dry. Over watering may have more chance of root rot.
Fertilizers : Orchid must be feed with weak nitrogen based dousing at least once a week.
Humidity : Brassia grow best with humidity tray underneath them. The ideal humidity for the plant is about 60%.
