pinch of Cinnamon
1 tsp Maple Syrup or honey (optional)

I always loved the idea of proper porridge but used shortcuts such as packets and microwave methods so it never tasted that good. Actually, it’s ridiculously simple to make so I don’t know what I was worried about. The cinnamon is a great touch and let’s rock the whole milk. Keeps the family full for ages.

Put the oats in a saucepan and pour over the milk or milk and water. Slowly bring the mixture to the boil, stirring constantly, then turn the heat down. Add the salt and cinnamon.

Cook the porridge gently, stirring regularly, until it has thickened to your liking. As long as the oats have cooked for about 5 minutes, you can eat it as runny or as thick as you like.

If you have a sweet tooth, serve with a little honey or maple syrup and gradually cut this down until you don’t need it any more.
