1⁄2 cup Sugar
1⁄2 cup Molasses
1 Egg Yolk
2 cups Flour
1⁄2 teaspoon Salt
1⁄2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1⁄2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1⁄2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Cloves
1 teaspoon Ginger
1⁄2 teaspoon Nutmeg
1 batch Cookie Glaze Icing

The aroma of ginger, molasses, and cinnamon always fills the house during the holidays and these Gingerbread Cookies are a classic family favorite. Use the Cookie Glaze Icing to add silly faces and “clothes” to your gingerbread men and to make your snowflake gingerbread cookies (made with a flower cookie cutter) beautiful.

Cream together butter and sugar in a stand mixer or large bowl.

Add molasses and egg yolk.

In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients.

Add flour mixture to butter mixture and slowly mix together until ingredients are incorporated. Form the dough in a ball and keep in bowl; place in refrigerator for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Then, roll dough to 1⁄4 inch thick and cut with your desired cookie cutters. I love to use snowflakes and the classic gingerbread cookie cutters, but you can use your favorite Christmas cookie cutters like bells, trees, and more.

Place cookies 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.

Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are slightly brown. Remove from oven and allow cookies to completely cool before icing

Add Cookie Glaze Icing to a cake-decorating bag with a #2 tip. Ice cookies as desired. I love the classic gingerbread look with two eyes and three button dots down the center of the gingerbread. We also love to add clothing by drawing on shirts and pants

Allow icing to dry for 4–5 hours before serving.
