Crunchy croutons with “bacon” bits recipe

Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
2 cups Millet or rice bread, cut into ¾-inch cubes
2 tablespoons extra virgin Olive Oil
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan Cheese style nondairy
½ teaspoon dried Basil
½ teaspoon dried Marjoram
½ teaspoon dried Oregano
Sea Salt to taste
Bacon Bits
1 pound “ Bacon ” flavored tempeh strips
½ cup extra virgin Olive Oil
1 large clove Garlic , peeled, finely chopped
1 teaspoon dried Marjoram
1 teaspoon rubbed Sage
1 teaspoon dried Basil
½ teaspoon dried Oregano
½ teaspoon Sea Salt
freshly ground Black Pepper to taste (optional)

Steps

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Line an 11 × 15-inch cookie sheet with parchment paper & set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl, toss together the bread, oil, cheese, basil, marjoram, oregano, & salt.

Evenly spread the seasoned cubes on the prepared cookie sheet; bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden.

For uniformity in baking, rotate the sheet from front to back halfway through the baking period.

Remove the sheet from the oven and cool the croutons completely.

Bacon Bits

Preheat the broiler.

Line an 11 × 15-inch cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl, toss together tempeh, oil, garlic, marjoram, sage, basil, oregano, salt & pepper.

Evenly spread the seasoned tempeh on the prepared cookie sheet; broil in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until golden.
